Those little turkey pop-up timers that come two in a little package-Are they actually accurate? Do they work? Can I go ahead and use them instead of my meat thermometer?

yes they are.. They are the best thing invented!!! I would be lost with out one.. Ok i have only cooked 1 turkey and used it.. it turned out great!!

  2. BIG DADDY Says:

They do work but there is a catch. They pop at about 180 deg. It will tend to make the white meat dry.
The best way is to use a digital probe thermometer. about 8-12 dollars. Cook untill the thickest part of the breast is 160 remove and let it sit about 15 minutes before carving. while it is sitting it will reach about 165 or so.

I used one on a chicken and the juices ran red, they should be clear.

I have never used them ever since I watched Julia Child rip one out and throw it across the room saying it was the dumbest thing she ever saw. (not that people that use them are dumb..I think they are helpful …) but..I would use the meat thermometer..I believe the turkey is a little too well done by the time they pop…

Most of the time. I can’t think of a time it hasn’t for my mom and I
    so I would trust it

  6. Jodi B Says:

I have never had a problem with them.

  7. please remove me from here Says:

they have always worked for me

  8. kat Says:

To me, they are unreliable. They have some kind of substance at their base that supposedly gets heated up to a certain point and expands, causing the timer to pop up. Basting fluids can affect them and cause them to pop before the full time of cooking is reached.
You probably spent a lot on the turkey – I would spend a few more bucks on a meat thermometer and be sure….

Depends where you stick em! Make sure you stick-em in the right place, otherwise if they hit the bone or are just on the outter layer – it could mean trouble!

I never trust them, I have no idea if they work the way they are supposed to. I always use a meat thermometer, I don’t want to make any of my loved ones sick.

  11. Jacques Says:

I watched something about those things on the Food Network, and I’m pretty sure they work.
Just to be safe, you should use both (turkey pop-up timer and meat thermometer).

  12. wanna_he Says:

I have use them before and they’ve worked for me well !!!!

  13. yetti Says:

I use them every year…..I have never had a problem….I see them pop and I always just double check with my thermometer and they are accurate every year….so I would say they are safe.

  14. TerreriX Says:

    Yes they do work.

  15. Jessi Says:
